Word note / Approval

# What has been reviewed?

Approval, a business registration and a place in the FDA’s records can sound alike. Ask what each one actually tells you about the medicine.

## Approval belongs to a product

For a medicine to be FDA-approved, the Food and Drug Administration must have reviewed the evidence for that specific medicine and accepted it for a named use. [FDA’s approval explanation](https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/it-really-fda-approved)

There is no FDA-approved Semax product as of September 30, 2026. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

What if a site says “FDA registered”?

Having a business registered with the FDA does not mean the agency approved the business or its medicines, under rules checked September 26, 2026. [Federal registration rule](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-21/section-207.77)

## A code is not approval

The number called an NDC, short for National Drug Code, identifies a product in the FDA’s list of drug records. [FDA’s drug-code explanation](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-approvals-and-databases/national-drug-code-directory)

An NDC number gives no assurance of FDA approval or of an FDA check of the product’s listed details, according to FDA information checked September 26, 2026. [FDA’s drug-code explanation](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-approvals-and-databases/national-drug-code-directory)

Can I ask for the actual approval?

Yes. Ask which exact product is approved and for which use. A reply about the business’s registration answers a different question.

## Make the wording specific

Save a picture of the page or copy the phrase that caught your eye. Ask the doctor how that wording relates to the care they are offering.

If the reply is about a code, a badge or a registration, keep asking about the product itself. You can leave the conversation with an unanswered question and return to it later.
