## A small chain made in a lab

Semax is a tiny peptide created in a lab, with seven chemical pieces linked into a chain. Proteins are made from the same kinds of pieces. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

“Semax acetate” is the name of another version of the Semax ingredient. The FDA review examines both forms. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

Ask the doctor: “Which version is in this product? Does the study you are relying on cover that version? What difference would that make to my care?”

Does the name tell me what it does?

A chemical name helps identify a substance. It does not, by itself, answer your question about care.

## Why it has a medical history

Semax is registered as a medicine in Russia, where it comes as nose drops, according to the FDA review checked September 30, 2026. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

FDA records show no approved US product or official US drug label for Semax as of September 30, 2026. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

Does registration abroad settle the US question?

No. A medicine’s registration in Russia does not extend to the United States.

## Ask about the concern, too

A useful opening is: “I came across Semax while looking for help with this problem. Can we talk through my options?”

Describe what is happening, when you notice it and how it affects your day. Keep the product name in the conversation, but give the concern room as well.

Then ask what the doctor thinks is causing the problem and what the proposed care is meant to change.

Keep a question open
