## The answer to start with

Semax is a man-made peptide: a tiny chemical formed by joining seven pieces into a chain. Proteins are made from the same kinds of pieces. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

So is it a real thing?

Yes. Semax is registered as a medicine in Russia, where it comes as nose drops, according to the FDA review checked September 30, 2026. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

That Russian registration does not give it US approval.
