# Read past the label.

A scientific-sounding label can feel reassuring. Look at what the page is actually offering.

## What that phrase can hide

A “research use only” label does not change a product’s status as a drug when it is offered for people to use. FDA letters reviewed September 26, 2026 explain this. [FDA letter: intended use](https://www.fda.gov/inspections-compliance-enforcement-and-criminal-investigations/warning-letters/gram-peptides-721806-03312026)

In those letters, the FDA says sellers broke the law by offering unapproved drugs. A warning letter states the agency’s accusation; it does not mean a court has decided the case.

What about a guide to mixing it?

The FDA saw mixing supplies and preparation guides as signs that products were meant for people to inject, in letters reviewed September 26, 2026. ## A lab label leaves the care question open

A Semax product labelled for research was offered online, according to the FDA review checked September 30, 2026. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

There is no US-approved Semax medicine as of September 30, 2026. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

What am I trying to find out?

Who would assess your concern, which product is being discussed, and why it is being offered to you. A research label answers none of those questions.

## Keep the question in a care setting

Bring the page or its wording to a doctor or another health professional licensed to assess your concern. Ask them to explain the product and why it is being offered.

Leave the mixing instructions aside. Talk about your concern and the research behind the proposed care before deciding what to do.
