## For the main Semax review

Read the FDA’s Semax review for the uses being proposed, studies in people and concerns about the ingredient. This review was prepared for the July 2026 meeting. [FDA’s Semax review](https://www.fda.gov/media/193348/download)

FDA staff recommended that Semax stay off the list of extra ingredients that regular pharmacies are allowed to use when preparing medicines to order. That was a staff recommendation, not a final FDA decision. [FDA’s staff proposal](https://www.fda.gov/media/193342/download)

What can I ask about the document?

“Which part supports your recommendation for my concern, and which part sets a limit?” That keeps the reading tied to the decision.

## For the current compounding record

Individuals or groups requested the FDA’s permission to use Semax as a pharmacy ingredient, then withdrew those requests. The FDA still lists its safety concerns beside Semax on its page marked current April 22, 2026. [FDA’s compounding record](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/human-drug-compounding/certain-bulk-drug-substances-use-compounding-may-present-significant-safety-risks)

The meeting page had no official record of how the group advising the FDA voted on Semax as of September 30, 2026. [FDA’s meeting documents](https://www.fda.gov/advisory-committees/advisory-committee-calendar/july-23-24-2026-meeting-pharmacy-compounding-advisory-committee-07232026)

The FDA page’s update date does not tell us when the requests were taken back.

Keep three dates separate: when a meeting happened, when a source page says it was updated, and when its information was checked for this guide. Ask which current rule supports the offer you are considering.

## For the focus and stroke papers

The small brain-scan studies did not prove better focus or memory in daily life, as reviewed September 30, 2026. [Study summary: brain-scan study](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30225715/)

[Study summary: another brain-scan study](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32342318/)

The stroke-study summaries reported better recovery. They did not say whether people were put into groups by chance or kept from knowing which treatment they got. [Study summary: stroke study](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29798983/)

[Study summary: the earlier stroke study](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11517472/)

A study summary is shorter than the full paper. If it leaves out a detail, ask about that detail before relying on the result.
